§ 2.04.040. Primary election for city offices.

  • Whenever more than two qualified candidates file nomination papers for an alderperson or mayoral office or for any other elected position, the city shall schedule a primary election at least 30 days before the general election. The primary election shall reduce the number of candidates to two for each contested office. Wis. Stats. § 8.11 Spring Primary is hereby incorporated by reference.

    This is a charter ordinance and shall take effect sixty (60) days after its publication unless within such sixty (60) day period a referendum petition is filed as provided for by Wis. Stats. § 66.0101. In such event, this ordinance shall not take effect until it shall have been submitted to a referendum vote of the electors and approved by a majority of the electors voting thereon.
